The DC Universe has dropped their first trailer for the live-action Titans, and it’s definitely a trailer. The show, which is a complete departure from the cheerful and comical Cartoon Network Teen Titans, will be available on the DC Universe streaming platform later this fall. It looks much darker and grittier and is apparently more adult oriented as Robin drops a choice word about Batman. A four letter word that rhymes with “truck” to be precise.
In the trailer, we get to see Robin (Brenton Thwaites) go solo. It would seem though that he has a different way of delivering justice than that of his mentor as he snaps necks and goes all murdery. Not that Batman shows a whole lot of mercy as he dispensed justice, but Robin really shows no mercy. Also, “F*ck Batman.” Yep, he really says that. I know that when Dick Grayson set out on his own in the comics, there was some angst between the two, but the Titans version of Robin seems especially bitter. I hope we get to find out why.
The trailer also gives us our first look at Anna Diop as Starfire and a couple of shots of Ryan Potter’s Beast Boy leaping into action. There’s also a lot of Raven (Teagan Croft) looking to Robin to help her control the darkness within. We also get brief glimpses of Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly as Hawk and Dove.
My first thought after watching the Titans trailer is that it’s the love child of the Arrowverse and Netflix’s Marvel shows. I’d really like to see a DC property that doesn’t feel the need to be dark and gritty, but apparently, that’s asking too much. But what do you think? Check out the trailer and let us know your reaction in the comments!
