E3 2018: The Last of Us Part II Gameplay Showcased

After two previous cinematic trailers since the game was announced, we finally got a glimpse into the gameplay of for The Last of Us Part II. The new trailer was showcased during Sony’s E3 event and it opened up with a much lighter tone than the last trailer that quickly shifted gears and took a dark turn and showcased the game in action. The section the trailer showed us was taken place in a grassy area that is full of enemies in hoods. The game’s combat is noticeably much more brutal than its predecessor.

One of the most noticeable aspects of the game’s combat is the lack of an on-screen hub. The only indication of anything on your screen in relation to a hub is a small white circle on the bottom right hand of the screen that would indicate whenever Ellie picked up an item such as arrows. Hand to hand combat was also showcased when Ellie was spotted by an enemy when attempting to sneak kill another enemy. We can see that players can now dodge enemy attacks and counter them as well. One of the impressive aspects of the gameplay is the clear attention to the different types of animations showcased in the gameplay combat. This attention to detail makes the combat look and feel real and reactionary.

This first look at the game’s combat since to help indicate that developers Naughty Dog is doing there best to ensure that this sequel not only lives up to its predecessor but also exceed. The game’s combat is best seen to believe, so be sure to check out the trailer below.
