Dark Horse Comics recently announced they are releasing a new, original graphic novel targeted at younger readers called Disney Princess: Jasmine’s New Pet. The book features award-winning writer and illustrator Nidhi Chanani.
In Disney Princess: Jasmine’s New Pet, Jasmine loves Rajah, her new tiger cub. But living in the palace has rules, and Rajah finds them difficult to follow! He ruins pillows with his claws, knocks over potted plants, chases the palace peacock, and wakes Jasmine in the middle of the night with his yowling. If Jasmine can’t teach Rajah to behave better, her father the Sultan will send Rajah away to live with someone else! Jasmine and Rajah have just a week to learn how to follow the rules together.
Disney Princess: Jasmine’s New Pet will be 48 pages and will retail for $7.99 when it hits stores on October 10, 2018. But we have some good news! It’s currently available for preorder on Amazon and through your local comic shop.
As a father of multiple young girls, and as a guy who loves comic books and graphic novels, I LOVE this! I see it as being very similar to DC Super Hero Girls in that it’s a comic that is targeted towards young girls. (Yeah, they say “younger readers” but it’s Disney Princesses. Of course the target demographic is young girls.) My daughter still loves reading those books. And in my personal experience, this is a great way to do a whole bunch of things, the least of which is getting younger kids to read comics.
