The World Health Organization recently announced that they officially recognize video game addiction as a mental health disorder. They say that the intention of classifying “gaming disorder” is so that medical professionals can be “alerted to the existence of this condition.” This, in turn, will make it easier for professionals to help those who may be suffering from this newly recognized disorder.
This week, the panel attempts to discuss exactly how legitimate of a disorder video gaming addiction truly is. Is it real, merely a “boogeyman,” or is there is actually something else at play (pun intended). We also get off in the weeds and talk about violence in video games, and wonder why there are 12-year-old kids on Xbox Live at 2:00 AM.
